de Braga by ARTOTEL Organizing Solo Art Exhibition "The Other Hemisphere"
Bandung, October 2018 - de Braga by ARTOTEL as the first hotel in Curated Collections category operated by ARTOTEL Group held its first art exhibition entitled "The Other Hemisphere", in collaboration with local Bandung City artist, namely Restu Taufik Akbar. "The Other Hemisphere" art exhibition was held on October 10 to October 28, 2018 at ARTSPACE, 2nd floor of de Braga by ARTOTEL.
Restu Taufik Akbar’s painting reminds us of a landscape with shrubs with several stems of plants and leaves, which gives us a landscape that is nowhere and unrecognizable. Landscape paintings generally are a form of documentation from a place. Plant factors will usually be a major factor and forests become an important subject matter.
In today's urban society, the issue of the environment is significant. Works that are environmentally friendly can always be a counterweight when society moves very dynamically towards cosmopolitan. Scorn, longing and damage to nature make us always remember the natural environment.
Restu' paintings provide an interesting 'search' process. For Restu himself, this process might become a double-edged sword, first, it could give an infinite possibility or it might be trapped in a mere form-making routine. For those of us who see this work as a gate to enter a new experience by trying to do the simplest thing in seeing the painting, which is seeing to feel then experiencing it.
The landscape that Restu present in his painting does not give a specific picture of a place, but the identity of the place becomes universal. The colors that are artistic in Restu’ paintings cannot be attributed to the colors in nature. It is precisely there that shows how Restu try to construct reality. These colors just don't want to be a marker that refers to an information form but as a unit that builds a nuance. Those are what Zusfa Roihan wrote as the introduction to art exhibition “The Oher Hemisphere”.

About Restu Taufik Akbar
Born in Bandung, 1990, Restu graduated from Faculty of Art and Design, Institute of Technology, Bandung, majoring in Painting with Summa CumLaude. His form of paintings are a combination of interacting experiences with nature, especially the forest landscape, through the inner understanding, and exploration of artistic material. Restu often transforms forests and nature into extractive characters with vibrant colors which attracts the attention of many people. His style of painting is full of diverse forms that makes the painting more like a sculpture or installation.
