Hedi Soetardja is an artist based in Jelekong, an area known as a "painters’ village" in the Southern part of Bandung. Besides working on commissioned paintings to make a living, Hedi uses his spare time to work independently, building networks and reputation in the contemporary art world. Hedi was one of the artist in residence for "Transit #4" program at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space.
Since the beginning, Hedi was inspired by "Outsider Art" that utilizes spontaneity in the creation of his paintings. Today, Hedi's works come with streaks of line and expressive layers of color. The scribbles are an expression departing from a certain writing/text that represents the artist's psychic.
