‘Odor Print’ will take place one moment only.
The ‘My Self’ series is an ongoing research series about the self and the identification process since 2015. For ‘My Self, the (Unfamiliar) Roots’ Lisette Ros is focusing on her ancestral (unfamiliar) roots in Java and Ambon, part of the former Dutch East Indies. In phase three, Ros tries to connect with these roots through the olfactory system, exploring how odors tied to her heritage shape identity and memory.
During her residency at Dalemwangi Art Space in Bandung, Ros conducted an experiment by abstaining from artificial scents to let her natural body odor emerge. This performance experiment, titled ‘Odor Print’, highlights the deep connection between odor, ancestral memory, and identity as she searches for the essence of her unfamiliar roots.
